As many of you have noticed (and hated :-), we have nerfed the guest logins. Guests are now stuck with a "nobody" name and cannot upload pictures anymore. As much as this annoyed some people, that's not the reason we did it. ;-)
The moderation of Vagipe can be a nightmare at times. A huge problem are spammers and other not-so-civilized people, who use the guest login to hide behind it. Picture spam, especially adult stuff in the family rooms, was a big problem. Some very explicit names were a problem, too. And last but not least private messages are a problem, which will be disabled for guests in the future, too.
Registration is 100% free with no catch whatsoever. We feel that a minute of your time to sign up for a nick isn't asked too much considering what you get for free in return.
The guest login was never meant to be more than a preview to give people a quick glimpse into the chat before signing up. It was not meant as an anonymous chat to act like an asshole without consequences. Yes, it is always the stupid few who spoil it for the rest, but that's a fact of life. ;) |

Red5, the open source flash server we are using, has progressed nicely the last months. Version 0.6.3 is powering Vagipe 100% stable for over a month now with very little resource usage. Kudos to the dev team for a great job on a great product. They might even make me reconsider my oppinion on java. ;-) |

We now have moderators in the rooms to keep your chat experience fun and hassle free. |

The chat applet has received several upgrades:
- You can now disable the display of user pictures, chat sounds, and private messages.
- An automatic spam filter was added.
- An exit button has been added to return to the room list without reloading. |

When you "block" a user he will automatically be removed from your cam and cannot ask for permission again or send you private messages. |

Audio should be working properly now. |

The webcam and chat code has been further optimized: There shouldn't be anymore "phantom" users lingering in the chat. Updating the room list on login should be much faster now, too. |

You can now view three high resolution cams simultaneously. |

The buffer problems causing long time shifts have been fixed. Webcam video should be realtime again now. |

The chatterhead directory kindly helped us jumpstart this site by prominently linking us on their page. |

After some testing we can now easily handle hundreds of video streams, without too much strain on the server. |

Why do most webcam services offer so little in video quality? The flash compression is great and even our high quality streams use very little bandwidth. |
